Santa Barbara County Man Arrested On Kidnappping, Carjacking Charges

Posted on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 2:24pm

A Santa Barbara County man is facing kidnapping, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, and armed robbery charges after Sheriff’s deputies say he abducted a woman in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Investigators say that around 2:30 this morning, Michael Howard Burritt used a knife to kidnap a woman getting into her car in a parking structure at the Chumash Casino.

The woman managed to open a door, and yell for help, and detectives say that prompted the 46 year old Lompoc man to flee the vehicle.

Deputies immediately started a search of the area, and with the help of a K-9, arrested Burritt as the man was hiding in some bushes near Highway 246, and Via Juana.   They say he was wanted on warrants in multiple counties.

The woman suffered a cut to her hand, but was otherwise uninjured by her ordeal.
