The City Of Santa Barbara says there’s an impasse with its police officers union over a new contract agreement.
The City is seeking a new contract which would require officers to make a larger contribution towards pension costs.
When money was tighter, officers agreed to forgo proposed salary hikes to pay for pension contributions.
City officials say officers now want a salary increase which would fully offset their pension contribution, and give them a hike on top of that.
But, in a letter to the city, union officials say what in effect is proposed is a pay cut, which they say is unacceptable.
