New work is set to begin this week on a section of a major Central Coast highway.
Starting on Thursday, crews will be working on the intersection of Broadway, and Union Valley Parkway in Santa Maria. Broadway is also State Route 135.
The crews will be taking out the street lights at the major intersection, and replacing them with new ones. Parts of the intersection will be widened, plus it will be repaved, and restriped. Some of the work will take place at night to minimize delays, but people are being urged to use alternate routes if possible. The work is expected to take several weeks.
When completed, the Union Valley Parkway project will provide a new east-west connector from Highway 101, to Blosser Road. It’s an idea that’s been talked about since the 1960’s.
