Woman Gets 11 Year Sentence For Slaying Of Transient In Ventura County

Posted on Thursday, July 25, 2013 6:48am

A woman who took part in the killing of a transient in Ventura County has been sentenced to 11 year in prison.

Kristina Canell admitted helping her boyfriend, James Wilkerson, strangle Sarah Overholser in November of 2011.   She pled guilty to manslaughter as part of a deal with prosecutors, in which she testified against Wilkerson.

They dumped the 33 year old woman’s body in the ocean, and took the van she lived in.

Wilkerson was convicted of first degree murder, and could face life in prison without the possibility of parole when he’s sentenced next month.
