A Ventura County man officers tried to pull over for a traffic violation, but then managed to escape was caught when he lost control of the vehicle, and crashed.
Oxnard Police say they tried to pull over the vehicle near Hobson Way, and 9th Street around 4:30 yesterday afternoon, but the vehicle sped away. Officers started pursuing it, but discontinued the chase when it hit speeds topping 60 miles an hour, out of concern for public safety.
They say the driver, Joseph Fry Senior, was throwing drugs out of the vehicle’s window as he fled. The vehicle hit a curb as it was turning at the intersection of J, and Guava Streets, and overturned.
The Oxnard man suffered minor injuries. He was arrested at the scene, and is facing multiple charges, including drug possession, and being in violation of the Post Release Offender Program, which gives early release to non-violent offenders.
