A Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department helicopter on patrol spotted a massive marijuana growing operation in the mountains above Montecito, leading to the seizure of more than 7,000 plants.
In two raids this week, narcotics detectives eradicated two plots in the Romero Canyon area. During the second raid, which was early this morning, deputies detected two possible suspects in the rugged, remote area, but wern’t able to catch them.
In addition to the marijuana plants, deputies removed materials from a large scale growing operation, including everything from food, propane tanks, and an irrigation system. They had to use a helicopter to remove more the than 1300 pounds of paraphernalia.
