A missile defense system test involving Vandenberg Air Force Base is scheduled to take place on Friday, with a missile being launched from the base intended to target one shot from the South Pacific.
The target rocket will be launched more than 4,000 miles from the Central Coast, with the interceptor sent up from the base about 20 minutes later.
The window for the test is between 11:30 a.m. and just after 3:30 p.m. Friday.
It’s the first exercise of this type involving Vandenberg in two years.
The defense system is intended to protect against long range missile attacks.
