Problems Prompt Temporary Closure Of Popular South Coast Skate Park

Posted on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 9:45pm

A popular skate park on the South Coast is being closed temporarily, because of what officials have termed inappropriate and illegal activities at the facility.

The City of Santa Barbara announced that it’s shut down the Surfer’s Point facility on Cabrillo Boulevard for the next few days, after staff observed the use of drugs, and also had to deal with abusive behavior by some skateboarders.

Officials say that on Sunday, some of the people at the park threw water balloons into traffic, and into an adjacent arts and crafts festival.

The closure is in effect through July4th.
