Santa Barbara County Looking At Single Use Bag Ban

Posted on Monday, July 1, 2013 12:01pm

Santa Barbara County is going to look at banning single use plastic bags. County Supervisors tomorrow are set to review a regional environmental impact report on the idea prepared by the regional Beach Erosion Authority For Clean Oceans and Nourishment.

Rather than do area by area EIR’s, the agencv representing Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, as well as the cities in the region did a joint EIR, which could then be adapted by local jurisdictions.

A county ordinance would apply to the unincorporated parts of the county. If supervisors decide to proceed tomorrow, it’s expected they would direct staff to try to develop wording for an ordinance for a final vote at the end of this summer.

Locally, Carpinteria and Ojai have already implemented their own bans.
