San Luis Obispo County officials say it will be up to the governor to appoint a successor to a County Supervisor who died of an apparent heart attack earlier this week.
Paul Teixeira died Wednesday morning at a Santa Maria hospital, after being stricken in his Nipomo home. An autopsy confirmed that a heart attack was the cause of death.
The longtime San Luis Obispo County resident was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2010, and was currently Chairman of the Board.
Under state law, it’s up to the governor to fill the vacancy. County officials say the Governor’ office has been informed of the situation.
Teixeira’s term runs until June of 2014.
