It was a series of disasters off our coastline, which seem too incredible to be true.
It was 70 years ago that a military bomber crashed on a training flight, which led to a search by a second bomber, which also crashed. Then, more than a decade later someone re-discovering the forgotten wreckage of one of the planes led to a third search, and yet another fatal accident.
When it was all done, 16 people were dead.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks to a local historian who spent decades piecing together the details of the chain reaction of events, a man who’s going to present a lecture this week in Santa Barbara looking at the almost forgotten accidents.
