Authorities Now Say Shootings In Oxnard Were Attempted Murder, Suicide

Posted on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 4:50pm

Oxnard police detectives now say that a double shooting in the city was an attempted murder, and a suicide involving two cousins.

Officers were called to the 4500 block of Syracuse Drive at around noon Sunday, by reports of gunfire.  They found one man seriously wounded, with multiple gunshot wounds, and a second man who had been shot to death.

Detectives now say they think Eduardo Zarate Farias tried to kill his cousin.  They say the 40 year old Oxnard man then killed himself.

The name of the seriously wounded man, who is from outside of Ventura County, has not been released.  Investigators are trying to determine a motive.
