South Coast Community Looking At Water, Wastewater Rate Hikes

Posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 7:25am

Some South Coast residents could soon be paying more for water, and sewer service.

The Santa Barbara City Council today is looking at hikes to cover increased costs.

If approved, the average residential water customer would see an increase of less than a dime a month. Water charges for some customers in certain usage tiers could actually show a slight drop, while others could see larger hikes.

The wastewater proposal is for a four percent across the boards hike for residential and commercial users.

City officials say even after approval, Santa Barbara’s rates would be among the lowest in Santa Barbara County. The City Council will have a public hearing on the proposed hikes when it meets at two p.m. today.
