Santa Barbara County Man Wanted For Sexual Assault Of Carpinteria Girl Extradited From Maryland

Posted on Thursday, May 30, 2013 11:02am

A Santa Barbara County man wanted on charges he molested, and raped his girlfriend’s daughter has been extradited from Maryland.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives say they found out about the possible crimes in January. They say when Santos Javier Guevara-Oliva learned about their investigation, he fled the area. The detectives tracked the 33 year old man to a relative’s home in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he was arrested in February. Guevara-Oliva fought extradition, but a warrant was obtained from the governor’s office, and detective flew back to Maryland this week, and brought him back to Santa Barbara to stand trial.

He had been deported from the U.S. in 2010 for being here illegally, but returned to the U.S., and was living in Carpinteria with his girlfriend, and her daughter who investigators say was the victim in this case.

If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
