Law enforcement officers say they are stepping up DUI, and traffic safety efforts in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties for the Memorial Day weekend.

Agencies in both counties say they will have additional resources devoted to DUI efforts over the three day weekend.

The Ventura area office of the CHP says it’s also kicking off a new push to respond to speed related motorcycle accidents in Ventura County.

They’ve singled out five highways which have had 15 fatal accidents, and more than 180 injury crashes during the last five years. The increased enforcement areas include the Pacific Coast Highway from the Los Angeles County line, to Las Posas Road; State Route 33 north of Ojai; State Route 150 from Ojai, to the Santa Barbara County line, and State Route 150, from Ojai to Santa Paula.

The CHP will have extra officers on the high accident routes for motorcycle speed enforcement, especially on weekends when riding is heaviest.
