Ventura County is stepping up to try to help build a new Boys and Girls Club facility in a part of the county which has few activities for kids, by offering a $150,000 matching grant.
Hundreds of kids have gone through the program which operated out of an old mobile home in Saticoy. But, County Supervisor Steve Bennett says the center was falling apart. With gang activity a problem in the Saticoy area, county officials say the club is a critical alternative for children, and teens.
The county has already pledged $400,000 in one time funds for the $1.5 million dollar project, but the project is still more than $400,000 short of its goal.
Yesterday, the county pledged another $150,000 in the form of a matching grant, if the parent Boys and Girls Club of Ventura can double match it with $300,000.
