A Sourh Coast congresswoman is co-authoring legislation intended to help public health agencies research, and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps of Santa Barbara is one of the sponsors of the Climate Change Health Protection and Promotion Act. If passed, it would direct the Secretary of Human Health and Human Services to develop a National Strategic Action Plan for preparing for, and responding to climate change effects on public health issues.

It would include things like providing support to state, and local health departments to develop preparedness plans, and to conduct community outreach.
