Santa Barbara Police Say DNA Leads To Arrest In Rape Of College Student

Posted on Monday, May 20, 2013 4:03pm

Santa Barbara Police say DNA linked a man to the July, 2012 rape of a college student who was so intoxicated she was unable to resist.

The 21 year old UCSB student had gone to a Santa Barbara nightclub, but was kicked out because of her intoxication. Friends arraigned for someone to get her, but she was left alone on a bench outside of the nightclub. Investigators say two men then picked her up, drove her to a nearby home, where she was raped, and then dropped her off in Isla Vista.

At the time last summer, police were unable to solve the case. But, the State Department of Justice did testing this year which led to the discovery of a foreign DNA sample.

Detectives say it matched with a Santa Barbara man already in the DNA criminal database. They’ve arrested 35 year old Peter Lino Parra on a charge of raping someone too intoxicated to resist.
