A new Ventura County Grand Jury report says a connector should be added from a busy highway, to the 101 Freeway to alleviate heavy traffic on one of Ventura’s busiest streets.
The report looks at the massive traffic issues on Victoria Avenue.
The report notes that when the freeway system was being planned a connector was never built from westbound Highway 126 to the southbound 101 Freeway. It says that it might have been from a lack of money, or an intentional move to help businesses on Victoria. But, the Grand Jury says regardless of the reason at the time, the result now is heavy traffic on Victoria, and that a freeway connector is needed.
The report says that more immediately, the City of Ventura should work to better synchronize traffic signals, and have a consistent speed limit on the three miles of Victoria most heavily impacted, to try to improve traffic flow. The Grand Jury notes there are currently three sets of speed limits for drivers headed northbound, which it says can be confusing.
