A brush fire in the Camarillo Springs area is being pushed by strong wind. It was initially reported to be around 10 acres, but has been growing in size rapidly.
The fire was reported just after 6:30 this morning. The fire has burned towards the top of the grade, in a rugged area making it difficult for firefighters to battle. Some 200 firefighters are battling the blaze, along with three firefighting helicopters.
No homes are reported to be in immediate danger, but the Ventura County Fire Department has deployed units for structure protection. The fire has led to some lane closures on the 101 Freeway over the grade, with big traffic backups. The huge plume of smoke from the fire is visible for miles.
