The South Coast was the scene of a dramatic offshore rescue, when a man sailing solo from San Francisco, to San Diego had a medical emergency.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department was called around 10:30 this morning, by reports the 75 year old man needed help. The 30 foot long sailboat was anchored near the Gaviota Pier. A Santa Barbara County helicopter flew to the scene, and a crew member was lowered onto the boat. A basket was then lowered, and the man was loaded inside, and flown to Gaviota Beach, for transportation by ambulance to a Santa Barbara Hospital.
There’s no word on the man’s condition, but his medical problem was not considered to be life threatening.
