Controversial Restaurant Seeking Hard Liquor License In Ventura County

Posted on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 12:32am

A restaurant which was the focus of some controversy before it opened in Ventura County is back in the spotlight again today.

Plans to open a “Hooters” restaurant in the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks upset some people, because they feel that the chain objectifies women.

However, because the business was moving into an existing restaurant location, the only issue which could be contested was whether it could have a hard liquor license.

The owners opted to open with just a beer and wine license, to avoid the controversy. Now, the “Hooters” is hoping to get the hard liquor license. An administrative hearing to consider whether to grant the request is set for 3 p.m. today at Thousand Oaks City Hall.

Some of the other restaurants in the same shopping center already have hard liquor licenses, so approval of the request is considered likely.
