Mysterious Case Of Death Of Santa Barbara County Winemaker Solved

Authorities are now saying that the mysterious death of a Santa Barbara County winemaker last year which was called suspicious, and investigated by Santa Barbara Police, and the FBI was a suicide.

The body of Christopher Evans Marks was found last September 20th on Ledbetter Beach, below the cliff at Shoreline Park. Police didn’t talk about the cause of death at the time, but FBI divers were called in to help look for a weapon. The case received national attention, because of the mystery surrounding it.

Police investigators are now saying the 60 year old Santa Ynez Valley man died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and that while a weapon was never recovered, they are convinced the gunshot was self-inflicted. They now consider the case closed.

Marks was one of the owners of Sweeny Canyon Vineyard, and was a partner in a Southern California investment firm.
