Santa Barbara County is receiving a state grant to help in its efforts to deal with the surge of human, and drug smuggling by boat from Mexico in the region.
The California Emergency Management Agency awarded the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department $50,000 for its participation in what’s known as Operation Stonegarden.
The operation is focused on finding undocumented aliens transporting drugs into the state.
The money is intended to help the Sheriff’s Department deal with the overtime needed to deal with intercepting smugglers, and investigating smuggling operations.
County Supervisors are expected to officially accept the grant when they meet today.
