Public Hearing Set For Proposal To Reactivate Two Oil Well Facilities Off Goleta Coastline

Posted on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 12:31am

Public hearings are set for this week for an oil company’s proposal to fully reactivate two existing oil well facilities on the Goleta coastline.

Venoco want to recommission wells 421-1 and 421-2, which are located on piers south of Sandpiper Golf Course.

One of the facilities is an oil well, while the other is an injection well used to dispose of wastewater, and gas.

The original well dates back to the 1930’s, but they haven’t been actively used since the mid-1990’s.

The State Lands Commission public scoping hearing will take place in two sessions tomorrow, at 3 p.m., and 6 p.m., in the Goleta City Council chambers.
