More Than Three Tons Of Marijuana Seized By Coast Guard In Channel Islands

More than three tons of marijuana was seized by a Coast Guard cutter in the Channel Islands.

Coast Guard officials have just released details of the Sunday morning incident, about 90 miles west of San Nicolas Island. A Coast Guard plane on routine patrol detected a boat moving at high speed. The Astoria, Oregon based Coast Guard cutter “Alert” was directed to the area.

While the small smuggling boat escaped, its crew jettisoned bales of marijuana as it fled south. The cutter’s crew recovered more than 245 bales of marijuana, valued at $3.3 million dollars.
