Authorities are now saying that a shipment of marijuana discovered on a Santa Barbara County beach is worth much more than first estimated.
Vandenberg Air Force Base officials say an overturned boat, and 75 bricks of marijuana were discovered just of Wall Beach, on the base last Thursday afternoon. They initially estimated the marijuana had a roughly million dollar street value, but after examination federal investigators have upped the number to more than $2.7 million dollars.
Officials believe smugglers brought the marijuana onshore, and tried to cover it with some native brush, until someone could pick it up. After securing the scene, and conducting an initial search which failed to turn up anyone, the Air Force turned the case over the the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
