Authorities say they’ve seized more than a million dollars worth of marijuana brought into the U.S. by smugglers at a northern San Barbara County beach
Air Force officials say they found the marijuana, and an abandoned boat north of Wall Beach, at Vandenberg Air Force Base just before 1 p.m. yesterday.
Base, and local law enforcement officers looked for the boat’s occupants, and they warned base personnel to avoid the beach area while the search was underway. They used helicopters and ground vehicles to try to find the people from the 20 foot long boat, but didn’t find anyone.
Base officials say it appeared the smugglers tried to cover the marijuana with brush. They say it’s possible the boat may have landed on the beach as early as Wednesday. Department of Homeland Security officials arrived at the scene late yesterday afternoon, and took over the investigation.
