A longtime South Coast congressman is teaming up with a Ventura County university to launch a new program to help students interested in careers in public service.
The Elton and Janice Gallegly Center for Public Service and Engagement will be located at California Lutheran University, in Thousand Oaks.
Elton Gallegly retired last year last year, after serving 13 terms as one of Ventura County’s congressional representatives.
As part of the university’s Masters in Public Policy and Administration Program, this new program will also help students pursue internships locally, in Sacramento, and in Washington, D.C.
The longtime Republican congressman from Simi Valley is also sharing his personal, and legislative papers with CLU for student, and faculty research.
Future plans also call for the center to host speakers, and forums on leadership and civic engagement issues.
