A new report that was four years in the making could play a key role in the future management of thousands of square miles of ocean off the Ventura, and Santa Barbara County coastlines.
The Pacific Fishery Management Council has released a new ecosystem management plan for review.
One of its elements calls for protections for what are known as forage fish, small schooling species which play a key role in the ocean’s food chain.
The council received around 30,000 public comments on that part of the plan.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco looks at the proposal to provide some new protection for forage fish.
