A Ventura County community whose police chief resigned a few months ago has hired a new chief.
The Port Hueneme City Council accepted a recommendation from the interim city manager to promote Lt. Robert Gager to chief.
Gager has been with the department since 1999, holding a number of posts including sergeant, and lieutenant.
He fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Kathleen Sheehan, who resigned in December amid allegations from city of impropriety involving issues like conceal weapons, and the recording of conversations with city officials.
But, none of the allegations were ever proven, with the city dropping its investigation as part of a severance agreement worked out with Sheehan.
