A State Senator who represents parts of Ventura County has become the first sitting member of the Senate to serve on the State Parks Commission.
Democratic Senator Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills will serve as an ex officio member of the panel, which means she’s a member, but without voting rights.
Her post, and a yet to be filled slot for a State Assembly member were created in the wake of the discovery of millions of unspent money in Parks Department accounts, while the agency was planning to close facilities due to what it called a lack of funding.
Pavley has been chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee since 2008.
