Details have been announced for the nation’s largest professional bike race, which will once again visit the South Coast after bypassing the region last year.
The 2013 Amgen Tour Of California will take place in eight stages, from May 12th through 19th, and span 750 miles of the state.
On May 15th, the race will start in Santa Clarita, and pass through Santa Paula, and Ojai before ending up in Santa Barbara.
The professional cyclists will follow that nearly 85 mile ride with a 116 mile leg of the competition the next day, from Santa Barbara to Avila Beach.
The internationally televised race has drawn more than a million spectators in recent years.
The competition is expected to provide some good news for the sport in the U.S., in the wake of superstar cyclist Lance Armstrong’s doping revelations earlier this year.
