Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department officials say they’ve arrested one of their civilian employees on a burglary charge.
On January 4th, the department received a complaint that Mary Methmann was responsible for theft, for taking $50.00 while working at her position in the custody records department at the main jail facility.
On January 29th, officials say she was placed on administrative leave following the conclusion of an investigation which linked her to the crime.
Then, detectives investigating a February 4th burglary at a Goleta home they say found evidence linking the 45 year old Carpinteria woman to the theft of more than $10,000 in jewelry.
While the burglary case is still under investigation, Sheriff Bill Brown issued a statement saying the department is disturbed that someone in his office would betray the public trust.
Methmann has worked for the department for eight years.
