An international produce company notified Ventura County officials that it’s going to shut down farm operation, and its packing facility in Somis, and lay off more than 670 people.
Gargiulo, Incorporated says it will shut down its facility on the 2000 block of Somis Road as of April 1st.
In a letter to the County Board of Supervisors, the facility’s operations manager didn’t say what prompted the shutdown.
A list of those affected included people from supervisors, and tomato packers to more than 400 general farmworkers.
Gargiulo has operations in California and Florida, as well as in Mexico, Chile, and Puerto Rico.
