Ventura County Jail To Allow E-Mails To Inmates

Posted on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 2:08am

The Ventura County Jail is going to allow inmates to receive e-mails, but it won’t be free.

The County Sheriff’s Department announced a program which will allow inmates to receive up to five e-mails a day, per sender. The inmate won’t be able to receive the messages online, but can send them to an address where they will be downloaded, and delivered to the recipient. However, the inmates won’t be able to respond via e-mail, and will have to use traditional mail.

E-mails of up to a page each can be sent, with only text initially being allowed. They will cost ten e-mails for ten dollars, plus a $1.50 processing fee.

The new e-mail service goes online February 11th.
