Two legislators from our region are sponsoring a proposed new state law to increase penalties for the possession of child pornography.
Democratic Senator Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills, and Republican Assemblyman Jeff Gorrell of Camarillo are co-authoring legislation which could up the penalty for possession of child pornography from three, to seven years in prison.
The new law would also help differentiate between offenders who have a few images, and those who have hundreds, or thousands. It would give judges expanded discretion to give probation when appropriate, or much stiffer penalties to chronic offenders.
