A group of people gathered in Port Hueneme yesterday, to commemorate the 13th anniversary of a tragedy off the Ventura County coastline.
It was on January 31st, 2000 when an Alaska Airlines jetliner headed to Seattle from Puerto Vallarta crashed in the ocean off of Anacapa Island. All 88 people on board the plane died.
Some relatives, and friends of those who were on Flight 261 gathered in Port Hueneme, at a memorial built on the beach to remember those who died.
Investigators later determined that a problem with a screw on the tail assembly meant that the crew could no longer control the plane, leading to the crash.
