A small brush fire on the oceanfront cliffs in Montecito got a lot of attention, because it occurred in the middle of the day on a busy beach.

The Montecito Fire Department says the blaze was discovered just after 11:30 a.m.today, on the 1100 block of Channel Drive. Investigators say a warming fire started by someone who was homeless igniting some brush, and burned up the face of the cliff. Firefighters were aided by a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department water dropping helicopter in controlling the blaze.

The fire burned in an area where there were no structures. It was contained in about 45 minutes, at about a quarter of an acre. No one was hurt. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department arrested one person in connection with the blaze.
