A Ventura County man has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison, for beating to death his girlfriend with a vehicle steering wheel lock.
Jose Escobar Monterrozo entered a guilty plea to a voluntary manslaughter charge for the January 2012 killing of Claudia Menjivar at the couple’s Simi Valley home.
Prosecutors say the 36 year old man was upset the woman was involved with an old boyfriend.
He also entered guilty pleas to child abuse, and burglary charges in connection with the killing.
