Posted on Thursday, January 10, 2013 3:06pm

A body discovered eight months ago near U-C Santa Barbara has finally been identified, and police now say they don’t think there was foul play involved.

The body of Thomas Lee Broad was discovered May 10th of last year in a marshy area near the Santa Catalina Residence Hall.

The body was badly decomposed, and authorities weren’t sure if the remains were that of a student, or someone else.

They also weren’t sure if the death was a drug overdose, or possibly a homicide because of where the body was discovered.

Broad was a transient who had been living in the Isla Vista area.

The 63 year old man was positively identified with the help of DNA testing. An autopsy was unable to pinpoint the cause of death, but officials say there were no signs of foul play.
