Ventura Police issued a community crime alert as the result of a surge in residential, and vehicle burglaries.
Investigators say the number of reported home burglaries in Ventura doubled in the first week in January, with 18 incidents reported.
Police say more than half of the burglaries occurred as the result of unlocked doors, or windows. They noted the most of the incidents happened during weekdays, when people are typically away at work and school.
The investigators say they had about 25 vehicle burglaries during the same period, with many occurring because people left valuable items like computers, smart phones, and purses in unlocked vehicles. They’re asking the community to be alert for people who might be casing vehicles, or residential neighborhoods.
