Shipping Lanes To Be Shifted In Santa Barbara Channel, And Off Northern California To Try To Reduce Whale Strikes

It’s a potential disaster in the making for one of the ocean’s most majestic creatures.

When whales and cargo ships collide, the results can often be fatal for the massive mammals.

It’s been a big issue along the California coastline, with a number of accidents in the Santa Barbara Channel, and in the San Francisco Bay area.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports a deal reached after years of negotiations may help ease the problem, by moving some key shipping lanes.
