An Oregon man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison as the result of a crash on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County, which killed a motorcyclist.
Prosecutors say Patrick Shea Magann was driving a pickup truck erratically on the freeway in Oxnard when he knocked a motorcycle being ridden by Daniel Smilanick.
The San Fernando Valley man died at the scene.
Magann didn’t stop, and led law enforcement officers on a wild chase which finally ended in Santa Barbara County, where they had to use a taser to finally take him into custody.
Magann pled guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer, and evading an officer.
