If you want to get a job with one of the health networks serving Ventura County, you won’t be able to smoke. Community Memorial Health Systems implemented a new policy which means it will no longer hire tobacco users.
New job applicants will have to take a nicotine screening test.
Officials with the system, which operates two hospitals, and some clinics in the county, say they want their employees to be as healthy as possible.
The new policy took effect with the start of the New Year.
The move doesn’t affect current employees, who are allowed to smoke. But, they can’t light up during breaks in their shifts, because they aren’t allowed to smell like smoke on the job.
