Two Simi Valley Elementary School Students Suspended After Bringing Realistic Looking Toy Guns To School

Posted on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 1:16pm

Two elementary school students in Simi Valley have been suspended, after they brought some realistic looking toy guns to their school this morning.

Simi Valley Police say a 9, and a 10 year old boy each brought one of the airguns with them as they boarded a bus to Santa Susana Elementary School. Another student saw the toy pistols, and reported it to the school.

Just after 8 a.m., multiple officers responded to a call of a possible student with a gun on campus. However, a school resource officer determined that the students had brought the toys to campus to show to each other, and that there was no threat of violence, or malicious behavior. The two children were counseled, and released to their parents. The parents had no knowledge their kids were planning to take the toys to school.

Police are urging parents to be cautious of what their kids take to school, noting while the Simi Valley children had toy guns, their realistic appearance could have easily been mistaken as a real weapon by a law enforcement officer.
