A couple has given Santa Barbara County an early Christmas present, in the form of a valuable collection of paintings. Anne and Walon Green donated 10 paintings by artist Channing Peake to the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.
The works are valued at nearly $150,000.
Peake was a noted artist who painted scenes from Santa Barbara County’s history, as well as being a leader in the modernism movement. He died in 1989.
Some of the artist’s works are already on display in the County, with his “Fiesta” mural at the new Santa Barbara Airport Terminal.
The donated pieces will go on display at the renovated Santa Barbara County Administration Building in Santa Maria next year, after a major renovation project there is completed.
