Ventura County is going to look at a controversial practice used to extract gas, and oil from the ground.
Ventura County Supervisors approved a study of hydraulic fracking. Some people are concerned that the process, which involved the high pressure injection of fluids into the ground to open the way to gas and oil deposits may lead to groundwater contamination.
Industry officials say the process has been safely used for years.
However, the process is largely unregulated. Supervisors say they support passage of state legislation to oversee the industry.
