The ocean has been trying to reclaim a bike path, and other facilities at a popular South Coast beach.
Officials looked at using a seawall to protect the beach, but that approach can create new environmental problems, and is being restricted by the State Coastal Commission.
So, a unique project that’s been underway for about two years is trying a new approach, by in effect ceding the land to the ocean.
