State Commission Levels New Fines For Ethics Breaches Against Some Oxnard Officials

Posted on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 3:33pm

The fines keep coming in connection with ethics breaches by some city officials in Ventura County.

The Fair Political Practices Commission has made public fines against five more present, and past Oxnard city officials, bringing the total to ten in the wake of an investigation by the Ventura County District Attorney’s office.

The fines are for officials failing to report gifts exceeding a $50 threshold, with the gifts including things like meals, and golf games with companies doing business by the city.

Those fined include five current, and past City Council members, as well as five top current, and past city officials. No criminal charges were ever filed in connection with the lengthy investigation, but the DA’s report rebuked the city for what it called numerous lapses regarding the handling of gifts, and contracts which potentially posed a conflict of interest.
